Antimicrobial copper, brass and bronze

Did you know that copper and it’s alloys have germ killing characteristics? Let’s put this in perspective and what it means to society. Every year 7 million people are effected by bacterial pathogens acquired in healthcare facilities. Most touch surfaces ( door knobs, bed rails, faucet levers, etc.) are made of stainless steel. Stainless is inert, meaning it does nothing to effect the lifespan of bacteria. It has been found that bacteria can live and even thrive for weeks if not months on these surfaces. In laborotory experiments it has been proven that copper begins killing bacteria almost immediately. The EPA states the following:

* Laboratory testing shows that, when cleaned regularly, Antimicrobial Copper™ kills greater than 99.9% of the following bacteria within 2 hours of exposure: MRSA, Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE), Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and E. coli O157:H7. Antimicrobial Copper surfaces are a supplement to and not a substitute for standard infection control practices. Just like other antimicrobial products, they have been shown to reduce microbial contamination, but do not necessarily prevent cross contamination; users must continue to follow all current infection control practices.  Michels et al, Lett Appl Microbiol, 49 (2009) 191-195 demonstrated that Antimicrobial Copper™ outperforms two commercially available silver-containing coatings under typical indoor conditions.

Bronze, Copper, White Bronze, and Oil Rubbed Cabinet Hardware!

Are you looking for a unique finishing touch to your newly remodeled kitchen or bathroom?  Look no further!  Bear Creek Bronze offers Solid Cast Metal Cabinet Hardware for your home or business.  Due to the hand-made nature of our products, no two are exactly alike and possess their own individual characteristics.  The heavy and solid feel of our knobs and pulls is a perfect compliment to beautiful cabinets- and at an unbeatable price!

Bear Creek Bronze cabinet hardware is produced using certified alloys obtained from domestic sources.  The three alloys used are a specific silicon-bronze, a high grade copper alloy, and our nickel appearing white bronze.

Our bronze, copper, and white bronze knobs and pulls are ground by hand then placed in a shot-blast machine to blend the grind marks.  Following this process, the hardware- along with special polishing media and water- are loaded into a large tumbling machine to achieve a beautiful burnished surface.

After tumbling the cabinet hardware for an extended amount of time, care is taken to remove the hardware from the water quickly or the natural patina process will begin to occur.

The cabinet hardware is then placed in a heated centrifuge for drying.  Once these operations are complete, the knobs and pulls are ready for machining.  We drill and tap the pieces “dry “ without the use of cutting fluids or lubricants to prevent discoloration.

Our cabinet knobs and pulls are available without clear-coat or lacquer in order to allow the natural process of aging- or with our rich clear coated oil rubbed bronze finish.  Whichever finish you select, there is no doubt that our cabinet hardware will add a distinctive and captivating touch to your home or office.
